What is AR? Accelerated Reader is a software assessment tool that assesses a student's reading level, suggests titles of books at that level, and then assess whether a student has completed reading the book by asking a series of quiz questions.

  • First, students choose and read fiction or non-fiction book, textbook, or magazine. Teachers monitor reading including guided, paired, literature-based, and textbook reading.
  • Second, students take a quiz. The teacher receives information that is intended to assist, motivate reading, monitor progress, and target instruction. Reports regarding reading level and comprehension skills are available through the software
  • Last, students earn points to use in the AR store (4 times a year). To view the items that are available in the AR store, students and parents can visit the school on the main hall. The AR store is located on the main entrance hall after you pass the office near the lost and found.
The PTA has purchased the license for the online version of the Accelerated Reader program and this allows students to take books on all AR tests that are available, not just what is in the GES library. If your student is reading a book, you can check the AR Book Finder and see if there is an AR test available for that book.
